Frontend Testing & Quality Assurance

Frontend Testing & Quality Assurance

C
Cre8afrikaPlatform

This course bridges the gap between writing code that works and writing code that is proven to work. You will learn the professional mindset and tools needed to guarantee software quality. Starting from the absolute basics of testing theory, you will write unit tests with Vitest, test React components as users see them with React Testing Library, and finally write comprehensive end-to-end (E2E) browser tests using Playwright. By the end, you will know how to automate your test suite using GitHub Actions so your code is continuously tested before it ever reaches production.

Curriculum Outcomes

Understand the Testing Pyramid and know when to use Unit, Component, and E2E tests

Confidently write isolated unit tests for JavaScript utility functions

Master React Testing Library to test UI components and user interactions reliably

Automate complete browser interactions and network mocking with Playwright

Integrate test suites into CI/CD pipelines to prevent broken code from deploying

Modules

Step-by-step mastery
1

Testing Fundamentals

In this introductory module, you will discover why testing is one of the most important professional skills a developer can have. You will learn the difference between Unit Tests, Integration Tests, and End-to-End Tests, and understand when to use each one. By the end of this module, you will have a complete testing environment set up with Vitest and Jest, and you will have written your very first unit tests for pure JavaScript functions.

Component Testing with React

This module takes testing directly into the React world. You will use the industry-standard React Testing Library (RTL) to write tests that simulate how real users interact with your components — clicking buttons, filling in forms, and reading the screen. You will learn how to test asynchronous behavior (like data fetching), and how to replace real API calls with fast, reliable mock functions so your tests never depend on a live server.

End-to-End Testing

End-to-End (E2E) tests are the final safety net of a quality application. In this module, you will use Playwright to write tests that control a real browser — typing into inputs, clicking links, and verifying that the full application flow works correctly from start to finish. You will also learn how to run your entire test suite automatically on every code push using GitHub Actions CI/CD, making quality assurance a continuous, automated process.

3.3

Project - Build a Complete Test Suite for a React Shopping Cart

In this capstone project, you will apply all three testing disciplines to a realistic React shopping cart application. You will write unit tests for the price calculation logic, component tests for the cart UI and user interactions, and E2E tests for the complete "browse → add to cart → checkout" user flow. By the end, you will have a fully tested application with a CI pipeline that runs your entire test suite automatically on every commit.
